Description

Oxytocin is a naturally occurring cyclic nonapeptide hormone composed of nine amino acids, synthesized in the hypothalamus and secreted by the posterior pituitary gland. The synthetic form of Oxytocin, known as Recombinant Oxytocin, is structurally identical to the endogenous hormone and is widely studied for its potential influence on social behavior, neuroplasticity, vasodilation, and reproductive processes.

First isolated in 1920 and structurally characterized in the 1950s, Oxytocin has since become a focus of neuroscience and endocrinology research due to its hypothesized dual function as both a hormone and neurotransmitter.
